3 Reasons Why You Should Live a Healthy Life in College
Despite what the movie industry is telling you, college isn’t just a time for reckless fun and binge drinking. True, college means more independency, but with this so longed independency, comes great responsibility. It’s time you started living life on your own, and it is your responsibility to learn how to take proper care of yourself, both inside and out.
Diet related illnesses
We know how overwhelming starting college can be. You’re registering for classes, meeting new people, keeping up with school assignments and stressing over exams. Undoubtedly, these changes are affecting your diet behavior. You go from home cooked meals to frugal canned noodles dinners, binging on junk food or anything else that gets the job done-keeping you full. Did you know that besides gaining weight, a bad diet could lead to more serious health problems? For example, if you give your body too much sugar and refined carbohydrates, you’re doing nothing but let candida be part of your life, because what sugar does to you, is that it lowers your immune system and impairs the ability to fight infection. Also, according to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, unhealthy eating and inactivity cause almost the same number of deaths as tobacco does, and 13 times more than are caused by guns.
A poor diet and a stressful lifestyle could cause serious harm to your health. You may not see it now, but it is true. Have you heard of the Leaky Gut Syndrome? It is an increased intestinal permeability that happens when the tight junctions in the gut don’t work properly, thus letting potential harmful substances leak into the bloodstream. Main symptoms include chronic diarrhea, abdominal pains, throbbing headaches, skin rashes, joint pain, anxiety and in worse cases, autoimmune diseases such as lupus, celiac disease or Chron’s disease. Try and maintain a healthy diet, including plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit and try to cut down as much as you can from processed foods that are oh-so-delicious but oh-so-nutrient-empty. Make a schedule and exercise two times a week for a better immune system and for increasing your concentration levels.
Alcohol related problems
The time has come. You are now faced with countless partying options, never-ending fun-time possibilities, your social agenda is full and you’re thinking to yourself, “This is the life!’’. Frat parties are a real thing, and they are part of the experience. However, you should be aware of the dangers. Huge amounts of booze can be tempting and they could easily get you hooked on binge-drinking. No one said anything against enjoying the occasional beer or cocktail, but be careful: your body is young so you may not be feeling the immediate effect that comes with drinking, which is hangovers, but you needn’t forget about long term effects, such as liver illnesses, heart disease, pancreatic problems or even cancer. Also, studies show that drinking and memory loss go hand in hand. Drink responsibly because what you do now, will affect you later on in life.
The Health of Your Sex Life
In college, love could be waiting just around the corner, but besides the possible joy and heartache that may come with it, there are more real and practical dangers to be considered. Even though condom commercials depict pregnancy as the main ‘danger’, there are actually far worse consequences than unwanted pregnancy. Contraceptives may prevent a woman’s getting pregnant, but what else do they do? Did you ever took in consideration what chemicals you’re putting in your body when taking contraceptives? Well, let aside the hormonal disorders they can cause, of which you are made aware of just by reading the prospects, there are some risks the prospect won’t ever warn you about. How do you know if you have candidiasis? If you’re suffering from bloating, food allergies, sensitivities of the skin and problems with the reproductive organs – you might just have it. Supplements, immune boosters, parasite cleansers, probiotics, glutamine and contraceptive may be the cause. Candida is not easy to live with, so you best take all precautions necessary and go see your practitioner if you have even the slightest feeling you may have it.
Feeling invincible is a characteristic of young people. But remember, what you do now, will have an effect on your later life, when your powers are draining and you don’t feel so invincible anymore.
