The state of Arizona has a geographic terrain of mostly deserts and land and it is well known for its most popular tourist spot, the Grand Canyon. Who hasn’t heard of this majestic natural wonder of the world? Yet this state doesn’t just attract tourists, but also students as well. There are lots of Arizona universities and colleges that offer amazing courses and provide different types of scholarships as well. Topbilling the list is University of Arizona. Established in the year 1885, the school offers about 300 degree programs and several scholarship programs. UA is well known for its courses and programs dealing with the natural sciences. In fact, it has been a recipient of numerous NASA grants for space exploration, more than any other university in the country.
The next on the list is the Arizona State University. Also established in the year 1885, ASU is a unified institution with four different campuses across the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Over the years, it has slowly climbed up to number 124 on the list of America’s Best Colleges. The university’s primary campus in Tempe, Arizona has an estimated number of about 42,000 students and is one of the largest institutions in the country. Tempe is located at the heart of the state and is considered as an urban place. The students even take advantage of the location of the school and apply for internship opportunities at the nearby areas.
The next university on the list, Northern Arizona University, is well known for its educational focus rather than on its research. Located in Flagstaff, which is in the south central part of the state, Northern Arizona University is considered a premier institution in Arizona. Founded in 1899, NAU boasts of offering a wide range of course options, but the most popular one is in the area of hotel and restaurant management. The students are given the chance to have a hands-on experience by working in the student-run campus hotel, though a lot of students prefer to finish their degree online.
In the year 1984, the Arizona State University West Campus was established. There are currently about 6,491 students enrolled in that campus which sits between Phoenix and Glendale. Students can choose from 38 degree programs in five colleges and there have been talks of adding other degree programs. The focus of the West campus of Arizona State is on the needs and comfort of nontraditional, returning and commuter students.
Last, but not the least of all the arizona universities and colleges is the Polytechnic campus of Arizona State University established on the former Williams Air Force Base in 1996. The main objective of this campus is on its technical and practical programs, yet they also offer degree programs in the realm of sciences and business. Even though the campus is still new, there had been almost 6,000 students enrolled. The number is expected to grow by the next decade or so because this campus addresses the needs of the scientific community.
